The Faculté de Théologie Évangélique (FTE) is the only French-speaking, interdenominational, university-level evangelical theological institution in North America. Affiliated with Acadia Divinity College of Acadia University (Nova Scotia)—an institution accredited by the Association of Theological Schools (ATS)—FTE’s academic programs are developed and delivered in alignment with recognized North American standards for graduate theological education. FTE exists to fulfill a clear mission: forming men and women through the Word to serve the Church and the world.
FTE carries out this mission through in-person, online, and asynchronous programs, allowing students to receive rigorous theological formation while remaining rooted in their local churches and ministry contexts. This model enables FTE to train Francophone students across Canada, Europe, Africa, the Caribbean, and the United States, ensuring that biblical and theological training is immediately translated into faithful service and leadership.
The need for such formation is both pressing and strategic. Evangelical Christians remain a small and often vulnerable minority within the Francophone world: approximately 0.8% of Quebecers and 1% of the population of France identify as evangelical. Quebec, in particular, is among the least-reached regions of North America. At the same time, the number of non-traditional Christians in Quebec has increased significantly over the past decade, pointing to a growing spiritual openness that remains fragile without deep biblical grounding and stable leadership. Without well-formed pastors and ministry leaders, this openness risks remaining transient rather than taking root in enduring churches and ministries.
FTE is responding to this opportunity in a way that is shaped directly by its mission. Over the past decade, graduate enrollment has doubled, overall enrollment has grown substantially, and participation in non-credit courses and auditing has more than tripled. This growth reflects not only increased demand, but the recognition that serious theological formation is essential for both future pastors preparing for full-time vocational ministry and committed Christians seeking to serve more faithfully within their churches. Nearly half of FTE’s current students are enrolled in graduate-level programs, where graduates are especially likely to assume pastoral and ministry leadership roles.
Through its emphasis on Scripture, theological depth, and service to the Church, FTE equips leaders who are prepared not only to teach and preach, but also to guide congregations with stability, discernment, and faithfulness in complex cultural contexts. Students consistently testify to the formative impact of this training:
“My studies have equipped me to better understand Scripture and the world I live in.”
“My studies have fostered a deeper love for God and for the truths taught in Scripture—both in me and in my church.”
“My training has completely transformed the way I teach and preach.”
