Church Planting in Lisbon, Portugal

In January 2020, my wife Jane and I, together with our three children, moved from Pretoria, South Africa, to Lisbon, Portugal, to plant a church. We were sent by 3CI (Capital City Church International) with a vision to establish a gospel-centered church in the heart of Lisbon.

Our desire was to create an English-speaking church that could serve the growing international community while also welcoming Portuguese locals. By gathering around a common language, people from diverse cultures and backgrounds could build meaningful relationships, grow in their faith, and become part of a thriving Christian community.

By God’s grace, the church has grown into a vibrant and established congregation. Today, a couple of hundred people gather on Sundays, and 22 Table Communities meet in homes across the city throughout the week. Much of the growth has come through people who had little or no previous involvement in church, with many attending church for the first time in their lives.

My role involves providing spiritual leadership, preaching and teaching, developing leaders, overseeing pastoral care, and helping build a healthy, mission-focused church that reaches both internationals and locals with the message of Jesus Christ. It is a privilege to be part of what God is doing in Lisbon as lives are transformed and a growing gospel community is established in the city.
