About This Partner

Oak Hill Academy is a K through 12 Classical School rooted in the historic Christian tradition, employing common and liberal arts, and Christian teaching, to form students for meaningful participation in the human story. Our primary objective is to form people rooted in right relationship with God, family and neighbor who are enthusiastic learners and hard workers. These individuals know themselves to be made in the Image of God; who speak with confidence and charity; who read broadly and think clearly and deeply; who are humble servants and faithful friends prepared to make a meaningful contribution to the life of the world.

The cultural challenge that Oak Hill Academy is responding to is threefold:

  1. The decline of the transcendent virtues of truth, goodness, and beauty in our society.

  2. Our ability to articulate what those virtues are and their implications for our society.

  3.  The need to cultivate and defend those virtues and understand their deep rootedness in the Christian faith.

However, the primary and immediate challenge that Oak Hill Academy faces is its growth and sustainability. We have grown quickly. We have outgrown our current facilities (shared with two local churches). To facilitate our growth and sustainability as an educational institution in the Hamilton area, we need a permanent home. The secondary challenges flow out of this primary challenge:

  1. The need for an infrastructure of fund development and patron engagement at OHA.  Institutionally, OHA is new to fundraising. We need to cultivate experience as well as a base of support.

  2. Operational integrity and sustainability. For OHA to be able to operate for generations to come, it needs to grow its tuition, its student body, and its quantity and quality of teachers. A permanent home that the school can grow into and demonstrate its commitment to long-term service to students and to the life of the world, is needed.

Why give to this partner?

OHA, a unique school in Canada that is committed to the study and practice of the Christian faith and the liberal arts, has responded to these challenges in three ways:

  1. A commitment to the cultivation of future generations who are followers of Christ, who know the value of the transcendent virtues of truth, goodness, and beauty, and can write, speak, and act in ways to preserve and nurture these virtues in our society.

  2. The purchase and renovation of a decommissioned public-school building as the permanent and long-term home of OHA. To complete the purchase and renovation, OHA launched a capital campaign to raise $5.6 million to purchase, renovate, and furnish this new school. In the first 12 months of the 27-month campaign, $2.9 million has been raised in pledges and contributed income, leaving $2.7 million remaining to raise.

  3. Through nurturing a new community of philanthropists in Canada and the US who are committed to the preparation of new generations of Christians around the world who can cultivate and preserve those essential transcendent virtues of a good society - Truth, Goodness, and Beauty.

Although the OHA community is growing, it is still small (70 families). It is not yet possible for this community to, itself, raise the entire amount required for establishing a permanent presence in this region and Canada in general. We are therefore reaching beyond the boundaries of our community, city, region, and even country to secure the funds required.

We invite all those who care about the future of our societies in North America, and indeed, the Western world, all those who believe the transcendent virtues of truth, goodness, and beauty are essential for our society, and all those who are followers of Christ, to contribute to this unique classical Christian school and ensure the completion of this new home and laying the groundwork for its long-term sustainability.
