About This Project

Port of Hope ministry to international seafarers.

Port of Hope Ministries is a chaplain ministry to international seafarers arriving at the Port of Everett in Washington State and the Fraser-Surrey Docks in Surrey, British Columbia.

The men and women who sail on cargo ships leave family for months at a time. Their work is both boring and dangerous. Love, hurt and worry hits hard when families are an ocean away. They miss family celebrations and passings. When problems or tragedies arise at home, they can only watch on their smartphone.

Port of Hope Ministries provides chaplain care to seafarers regardless of rank or status, political beliefs, lifestyle preferences or religion. A troubled heart needs a gentle touch.

We urge seafarers to live with moral integrity and right living. Our Biblical counsel guides them toward faith in Jesus.

Pray that our Lord’s message of forgiveness, peace and hope will go out with love, gentleness and respect.

Port of Hope ESL

Port of Hope ESL is a new “English as a Second Language” (ESL) ministry to immigrants in Salmon Arm, British Columbia.

Every immigrant wants to be accepted in their new country. Their greatest barrier is often the English language. Many are unfairly judged and stereotyped by their grammar and accent.

Port of Hope ESL attempts to build friend-to-friend relationships with new immigrants and offer free help with their English. We focus on speaking and listening skills, and accent modification.

Our goal is higher than English proficiency. All people need to hear and learn about Jesus regardless of their personal faith. Through ESL we hope to gently point hearts to Christ, whether by sensing His love and care through us, curiosity about the Christian faith or questions about life and spirituality.

Pray that our work will someday become the foundation of an international church.
