Save Orphans Ministries has been operating in Malawi, Africa since 1996. We introduced community-based orphan care programs in response to the government’s efforts to support children who lost their parents to HIV/AIDS. Rather than relying on institutional care, our model empowers communities to care for orphans within family settings.
We are a registered non-profit organization, accredited by the Ministry of Gender and the NGO Board of Malawi. Our work is guided by a local board of trustees and carried out in close partnership with village leaders, community members, volunteers, and local committees across multiple districts.
Our mission is to empower orphans and their caregivers, helping them meet their essential needs so they can lead dignified and productive lives within their communities.
Despite our deep community involvement and years of service, Save Orphans Ministries faces major challenges due to a lack of consistent funding. This has had heartbreaking consequences:
Education Disruption: Many orphans and vulnerable children are forced to drop out of school because we lack funds to pay their tuition. Some end up in early marriages.
Food Insecurity: Families caring for orphans often face hunger. Without resources to train them in sustainable farming and composting, they cannot grow enough food.
Early Childhood Education: Our Early Childhood Development Centers depend on community donations of maize to provide porridge. This food only lasts for about 3 months each year. After that, many children stop attending because there’s nothing to eat.
HIV Support Gaps: Children born with HIV and those living with the virus often go without adequate care or medication.
Youth Unemployment: We lack funds to offer vocational training. Many young people turn to drugs like marijuana, feeling hopeless and without direction.
Water Access: In some areas, children walk long distances to fetch water, arriving late to school or missing it entirely.
Extreme Poverty: Many children lack even the most basic clothing and hygiene supplies.
We continue to do everything we can with the little we have—collecting community donations, distributing what we can, and running programs on minimal resources. But to reach more children and restore hope, we urgently need support.
We are seeking donations in the form of:
Financial support to fund education, vocational training, and caregiver workshops
Food supplies for our nursery and early childhood programs
Clothing for children in ultra-poverty
Toys and learning materials for early learners
Funds to drill wells in communities without access to clean water
With your help, we can ensure that no child is left behind.
Please partner with us to bring hope, dignity, and opportunity to Malawi’s most vulnerable children.
