In Rwanda, the scars of a tragic past continue to shape the lives of many, particularly the youth who face formidable challenges in their pursuit of a better future. Poverty remains pervasive, with nearly 39% of the population living below the poverty line. Education, a crucial pathway out of poverty, is fraught with obstacles; only 26% of Rwandan children complete secondary school, and access to higher education is a luxury few can afford. Essential resources and supplies are scarce, with many schools lacking basic facilities and materials. Amidst these hardships, the need for hope and support is more critical than ever. The youth of Rwanda, resilient and determined, strive for opportunities to break the cycle of poverty and build a brighter future, underscoring the vital role of initiatives aimed at their empowerment and upliftment.
Beauty for Ashes Rwanda, a registered NGO since 2014, is dedicated to empowering urban youth to lead full and productive lives. Through weekly gatherings, youth conferences, student outreaches, community service projects, and a variety of creative and professional development courses, the NGO fosters responsible and informed decision-making among Rwanda's young people. By focusing on building confident and competent youth, Beauty for Ashes Rwanda aims to cultivate a generation capable of making a positive impact in their communities.
The Prayer House: A Hub for Youth Engagement
Located in Kigali, The Prayer House is the epicenter of Beauty for Ashes Rwanda’s activities. This vibrant youth center offers a range of amenities, including a coffee shop, music studio, rooftop patio, prayer room, library, and a hall that accommodates up to 500 people. It hosts worship services three times a week, attracting around 300 youth and young adults for prayer, worship, teaching, and fellowship. The center also emphasizes prayer and intercession, with a dedicated prayer room and special prayer events that draw significant participation. Additionally, The Prayer House organizes cell groups to help youth form deep, lasting friendships in a supportive environment.
Fostering Leadership and Growth
Beauty for Ashes Rwanda also runs specialized programs like "Fierce Girls" and "Shield Guys" to develop confident and responsible young women and men. Through events, activities, and annual conferences, these programs address crucial topics such as identity, mental health, leadership, and professional development. The organization’s courses, including the Worship & Creative Course and Propel Professional Skills Course, provide valuable training in worship leading and professional skills, respectively.
