About This Project

Haven Community Toronto exists to serve as a safe and welcoming third space for the Hong Kong diaspora in Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area. Rooted in Christian hospitality, we seek to create a non-judgmental environment where individuals and families can rediscover belonging, rebuild community, and discern their identity and future in a new land.

Many members of the Hong Kong diaspora carry deep experiences of grief, loneliness, displacement, and uncertainty. For some, migration has meant separation from family, friends, familiar neighbourhoods, churches, and communities of support. Others continue to navigate the emotional and spiritual weight of political loss, cultural transition, and the challenge of beginning again in Canada. In response to these realities, Haven Community Toronto offers a place of welcome, listening, accompaniment, and hope.

As a community ministry, we long to help people re-establish meaningful relationships, process their experiences of loss and transition, and reimagine a hopeful future. Through community gatherings, outreach initiatives, spiritual formation opportunities, pastoral care, and partnerships with like-minded professionals, Haven Community Toronto seeks to nurture emotional, relational, and spiritual well-being among those who may otherwise feel isolated or unseen.

We understand our work as a participation in the kingdom of God: making room for strangers to become friends, for the displaced to find home, and for those carrying grief to encounter healing and renewed purpose. Our hope is not only to provide programs, but to cultivate a community of belonging where people can be known, supported, and empowered to discern meaning and direction for the next chapter of their lives.

At the same time, we recognize the growing needs within the diaspora community, particularly in the areas of mental health, spiritual care, family support, and long-term community integration. One of our ongoing challenges is the lack of sustainable funding to support these needs faithfully and consistently. As we continue to organize community events, respond to those in need, and partner with professionals who share our vision, we are seeking support from churches, donors, and community partners who desire to contribute to this ministry of hospitality, healing, and hope.

Haven Community Toronto is committed to walking alongside the Hong Kong diaspora as they rebuild community, discern meaning, and reimagine the future together.
