The Floating Village Relief Project aims to provide crucial support and rebuild homes for the Bajao tribe, also known as "sea gypsies," who recently lost their floating village to a devastating fire. This indigenous community, living on the waters off the Philippines, is among the poorest and most marginalized groups in the country.
On a recent Sunday, a welding accident sparked a fire that rapidly spread through the bamboo structures, destroying hundreds of homes in just three hours. Over 3,000 people were forced to jump into the ocean to escape the flames, losing everything they owned in the process.
In response to this crisis, Smiles Impact is working closely with local partners, including a church that has been serving this community for six years, to provide immediate relief and long-term support. Our efforts include:
Providing essential supplies such as food, clothing, and hygiene items, especially for mothers with young children.
Coordinating the rebuilding of homes, utilizing the Bajao's traditional building techniques and knowledge.
Offering support for community rehabilitation and livelihood restoration.
Your donations will directly contribute to rebuilding homes, providing materials, and supporting the community's recovery. With just $1,500, we can build and furnish a new home for a family in need. Join us in this urgent mission to help the Bajao tribe rebuild their lives and community.
