In Fiji, families, and children are currently at risk from the dual crisis of COVID-19 and the severe category 5 Cyclone Harold. Amidst the lockdown of the pandemic, many people have lost jobs and any source of income to meet basic needs relating to food and shelter. In addition to this crisis, the island group was hit by Cyclone Harold resulting in loss of housing and food sources. This is especially felt on the island in some areas where entire villages were destroyed.
We are in daily contact with our staff in Fiji who continue to minister to their neighbors in the midst of it all and are seeing first-hand the need.
The Solomon Islands were spared a direct hit from the cyclone but there is now a high risk of sickness due to the lack of proper medical facilities for the unreached tribes.
Adventure Kids Camps is an organization that works with children in the South Pacific by hosting camping programs and providing financial help and supplies to those in need. Through this crisis, our goal is to provide for the immediate needs of those affected by the cyclone and the pandemic. This would come in the way of providing food, and also for materials to rebuild homes that were destroyed by the cyclone.
In the Solomon Islands, there is an immediate need for funding to build clinics in remote villages and unreached areas.
In light of these needs, and the continuing effects of the pandemic and cyclone, Adventure Kids Camps are launching this appeal for emergency relief funds to:
Feed the Hungry
Help the Sick
Provide Shelter for the Homeless
Contributions to the relief fund will help the many families and children who have been affected.
A separate opportunity has also arisen where our staff may be able to provide a home for children who have been abandoned as a result of these hardships.
Because the economy is largely reliant on the tourism industry, many people have been laid off from their jobs and our staff has been able to directly help and give to those in need.
