1MISSION is a community development organization giving people in poverty the opportunity to earn a house by serving their community. We operate in Mexico, Nicaragua, and El Salvador. We hope to break the cycle of poverty by empowering people with the opportunities to learn new skills to earn their own secure house. Many of our participants are living in unsecure, substandard housing – always at risk, and especially at risk during these times.In this COVID-19 crisis, our 1MISSION staff in Mexico – like the rest of our team in the United States – are stuck at home. The families abroad earn their house by serving their community: creating community gardens, learning to earn their GED, learning sewing skills, and much more. New house construction is now on hold, causing a lot of our hard-working families to continue living in substandard housing – at a greater risk of disease than many of us.Like you, we’re doing our part to limit the spread of the coronavirus. And we continue to pray for everyone around the world who has been impacted, including those who have lost jobs as a result of this COVID-19 crisis.We know that one day – hopefully before too long – it will be safe to resume construction of new houses.
