Dakar Academy Schools' Commitment to Excellence

In the heart of West Africa, Dakar Academy Schools (DA) stand as a beacon of educational diversity, with a mission that transcends borders. Across multiple campuses, the dedicated teachers share a common goal: to serve the educational needs of families in the region. The institution prides itself on delivering a student-centered learning experience, employing differentiated instruction, and embracing a vertically-aligned American curriculum.

Founded in 1961, Dakar Academy's flagship campus, DA Central, is a testament to its rich history as the first international and Christian school in Dakar. Nestled in the vibrant Hann Maristes district, the college-preparatory institution has grown into a community hub. It fosters an environment where 285 students from 44 countries thrive in a setting that balances academic rigor with a commitment to spiritual and emotional growth.

DA Central: A Community of Learning and Growth

At DA Central, education goes beyond traditional boundaries. The 6-acre campus, complete with academic and administrative buildings, athletic fields, and residential spaces, is a testament to the institution's commitment to meeting the evolving needs of the mission community. The campus buzzes with life as 25% of secondary students, benefiting from the only ACSI-accredited boarding school in Africa, reside full-time on-site.

Elementary Education: Nurturing the Seeds of Knowledge

Entering an elementary classroom at Dakar Academy is stepping into a world where creativity and engagement take precedence over conventional learning. From preschool to fifth grade, teachers craft lessons that go beyond academic excellence. The focus is on developing foundational skills, nurturing a love for reading and writing, and guiding students socially, emotionally, and spiritually.

"The love and the community here are so evident. The children notice it, parents notice it, and staff members notice it. One couldn't ask for anything more, for children to grow up in that type of environment." — April Cousens

The elementary athletics program offers an introduction to team sports, allowing students to explore their interests and develop foundational skills for future endeavors.

Middle School: Inspiring Exploration and Growth

DA's Middle School fosters a positive learning environment, encouraging students to explore their strengths and passions. With a focus on academic, physical, emotional, and spiritual growth, students delve into sports, fine arts, and diverse subjects. The student-run senate adds an extra layer of involvement, organizing student-centered events that enhance the sense of community.

High School: Dream, Challenge, Achieve

As students progress to high school, they encounter a robust college-preparatory curriculum. DA's extensive course list, including AP classes and opportunities for college credit, prepares over 85% of graduates for higher education. Beyond academics, students engage in service projects, field trips, and various extracurricular activities that contribute to their holistic development.

World-Class Facilities: Nurturing Learning and Creativity

DA's campus boasts modern facilities designed to enrich the educational experience. From air-conditioned classrooms and science labs to a fully-equipped woodshop, the infrastructure supports diverse learning needs. The campus homes, with colorful gardens and recreational areas, provide a nurturing environment for students.

Athletics: Fostering Health and Sportsmanship

At Dakar Academy, athletics are an integral part of the learning journey. From organized sports to seasonal intramurals, every student has the opportunity to participate in activities that promote health and well-being. The Dakar Academy Athletic Club ensures that sports are accessible to students of all ages and skill levels.

Africa's Only ACSI-Accredited Boarding Program

DA's commitment to a family-style living program sets it apart as Africa's only ACSI-accredited boarding program. The residential homes, led by dedicated couples, provide students with a "home away from home." Outings, academic support, and fostering a sense of family contribute to an unparalleled boarding experience.

In essence, Dakar Academy Schools go beyond academic excellence; they nurture a sense of community, instill values, and foster growth in every aspect of a student's life. The institution's mission is clear: to unlock the potential within each student and prepare them to make a positive impact on the world.
