In Burundi, a country still recovering from years of conflict and extreme poverty, many widows and orphans are left without support or hope. The struggle to survive often leaves the most vulnerable behind, making it difficult for communities to see a way forward. For children without parents and widows without family, life can feel like an endless battle against hunger, loneliness, and despair.
Boneko Bonaventure, an orphan raised by his widowed mother, knew this struggle firsthand. Yet, instead of succumbing to hardship, he felt a divine calling to make a difference. Trusting in God’s provision, he saved for years and, in 2020, purchased a small plot of land. This was the humble beginning of Imuhira Heza, a home dedicated to caring for widows and orphans, providing them with safety, love, and a future. His dream gained momentum when a Canadian teenager heard his story and stepped forward in faith to support the mission.
With this support, Boneko planted the first seeds of change—literally—starting a garden to feed the widows and orphans in his care. Soon, others joined in, and with the backing of the Great Commission Foundation, Imuhira Heza became a reality. Today, two widows lovingly care for 14 orphaned children, creating a family where they can grow, play, and receive an education. The local community, once hesitant, has now embraced the home, recognizing it as a beacon of hope.
Imuhira Heza is more than just a home—it is a movement of faith and compassion. However, the need continues to grow. With government regulations requiring separate housing for boys and girls, expansion is necessary to continue this mission. A nearby plot of land has been identified to accommodate this growth, providing not only a second home but also space for a garden, play areas, and facilities for worship and education.
You can be part of this incredible journey. Your prayers and support will help ensure that more widows and orphans find the love and security they deserve. Together, we can be the hands and feet of Christ, bringing lasting change to those in need. Join us in this mission and become part of something truly life-changing.
Prayer Request:
Please pray for God's provision and guidance as Imuhira Heza expands to provide a safe, loving home for more widows and orphans in need.
