Apartment Life is a not-for-profit social enterprise and Christian ministry. We break social isolation in multi-family apartment communities and offer the church the opportunity to develop relationships, make new friendships, and care for those communities. We host social events, paid for by the owner/manager, and welcome newcomers on behalf of the owner/manager. We serve the industry and provide tangible value to multi-family apartment owners/managers with a “Love Thy Neighbour” strategy for apartment residents. The non-profit is currently 100% funded by the business model, but in order to expand, we require a pastoral care position.
Volunteer Coordinators (usually a team of two who love hospitality and people) move into an apartment community. In exchange for greatly reduced rent, they deliver a valuable hospitality program to their neighbours. Apartment Life provides the opportunity to live on mission, but our events and welcome visits have no faith element. Instead, we train and celebrate living on mission with our teams who let their care for neighbours do the talking.
Our teams average 10 spiritual connections per month, and in the context of relationship, we make and track every church invitation and commitment to Christ. We provide robust training and support in people impact, hospitality, and technical training. We provide tangible value to the multi-family owners/managers who fund the events and all elements of the program. Our biggest challenges are attracting missional people to be coordinator teams and providing guidance and spiritual support for them on their journey.
The industry has recognized the economic impact of our model, so there are almost always apartment communities waiting for our coordinator teams. Coordinator teams have traditionally been the best source for referring new teams. To improve their experience and better support and equip them in ministry, we aim to enhance pastoral care for them. This will extend the life cycle of each team’s ministry and lead to more referrals.
The Apartment Life vision is growth with more teams serving more communities – while caring for our current coordinator teams. It is so important to us to provide leadership and pastoral care for our coordinators, and we are seeking to raise $30,000 to offset the costs of creating a part-time position.
