The Whitcombe family is serving with Beyond Ourselves in Zambia. They are overseeing the work of Beyond Ourselves, an education development ministry that is working to improve the quality of schooling in Zambia. Beyond Ourselves gives financial and professional support to Community Schools and is working with the Ministry for General Education to provide pre-service and in-service teacher training to government teachers across the nation.
The availability of quality education remains low despite much investment by the government and other stakeholders. Schools are often over-subscribed. Class sizes are high, and literacy levels remain low.
The Whitcombes are passionately working to see education improve in Zambia, specifically working in the area of literacy. We have developed a contextualized literacy program that is being utilized to empower educators to improve their teaching of reading and writing. We believe literacy is a key component to releasing people’s God-given potential to achieve their dreams and fulfil the plans that God has for them.
