The Valley Church is a community of believers who meet on campus at the University of the Fraser Valley in Abbotsford, British Columbia. Originally a campus of Relate Church, we launched in 2019 with a vision to see a creative, vibrant, and welcoming family formed in the heart of Abbotsford’s U-District. Today, we are re-launching that community as an autonomous church body with a renewed vision and focus to reach and bless the student body at UFV and the surrounding neighbourhoods with the love and life of Jesus Christ. In a time when many in our city don’t, and plenty have found themselves disillusioned by the gathered body, we’ve chosen to believe that the church can still be beautiful and compelling like Jesus himself, and we’re staking our lives on it.
Abbotsford, once believed to be the Bible Belt of British Columbia, is full to the brim with self-described church deconstruct-ers, and the de-churched in our city, particularly amongst millennials and Gen Z, seemingly outnumber their older churchgoing peers exponentially. Abbotsford is not the churched monolith it once was. It’s multigenerational, multicultural, and increasingly multi-faith. On the campus of UFV, there is a unique opportunity to be present in the epicentre of this increasing diversity as a regularly gathered body and a faithful witness to Christ. As student housing increases on campus and the U-District explodes as a hub of life in our city, we have a dream to be a church that gathers these students and young families and provides a consistent, loving community in the midst of disillusionment and cultural upheaval.
There are many churches in Abbotsford, but our opportunity stands unique amongst them as we open our doors each Sunday merely steps away from student housing and in the same buildings where the very next morning, thousands of learners and searchers will gather in pursuit of other truths. We have a dream to introduce them to the only one who is the truth, who is the way, and who is the only source of life. We have a dream to introduce them to Jesus.
Would you help us make that dream a reality? Your gifts and donations pave the way for us:
To continue to gather on campus at UFV, where we can be a light in an often unreached place.
To make a practical difference on campus and in our community - as we partner with local organizations to provide groceries and support to families and students in need within our city.
To continue to break new ground working with the Abbotsford School District, as we’re the first church in the city to officially ‘adopt’ a local elementary school and serve as ‘first responders’ of sorts - providing for a variety of needs, including food, hygiene supplies, volunteers and event planners, Christmas gifts for those who may otherwise go without, and so much more.
Thank you for your generosity!
