Why is Valley Light Needed?
There are more than 3.6 million orphaned and vulnerable children in Kenya alone. Valley Light exists to provide a loving, Christ-centered home where all the needs of such children are met. We believe that each one of them is of infinite value because each bears the image of God. All our children were either orphaned – with both parents deceased – or abandoned.
What is Valley Light’s Solution?
Our mission is to empower vulnerable children to pursue their full potential. We see it as our mandate to follow in the footsteps of Jesus and His disciples in proclaiming the Gospel both in word and in deed. We engage in extensive evangelism and apologetics and various community projects.
We are guided by the following values:
The Word of God is our foundation
Prayer is our fuel
Love every individual as a bearer of God’s image
Nurture the unique gifting and abilities of each child
Be a witness for the Gospel
Our Programs
Valley Light Home:
The home welcomed the first group of children on July 31, 2011. As of July 2023, Valley Light is home to 39 children.
Pisgah Heights Academy:
Our school started as a homeschooling program to help rescued children who had not had the opportunity to be in school and who were considerably behind their peers. Our goal is to develop the school into a full-fledged institution that will provide top-quality education to our own children and the children in our community.
Community Outreach:
We are convinced that the abandonment of children is the symptom of a deeper problem that is both spiritual and sociocultural. It is rooted in worldview, and it must be addressed at that level if we are to stop the process that gives us orphaned and abandoned children in the first place. We regularly hold leadership training events, evangelism and apologetics sessions, and food and water filter distributions, among others.
Our Impact
Some of our achievements in the last ten years include:
Providing a home to 37 children and reuniting 15 children with relatives
Five of our children are now in college.
Numerous leadership training events for pastors, the youth, and the general public
Food distribution to over 500 people on a weekly basis
Over three thousand water filters were distributed
