Beyond Ourselves in Zambia - Transforming Lives with Education

Access to quality education remains a significant hurdle; UNICEF reports that only 55% of Zambian children complete primary school. Classrooms are overcrowded, often holding more than 60 students, and basic supplies such as textbooks and writing materials are scarce. These obstacles contribute to low literacy rates, which hover around 55% for youth aged 15-24. Addressing these educational deficits is crucial, as literacy is a key driver for breaking the cycle of poverty and empowering the next generation to achieve their full potential.

Dan and Melissa Whitcombe, along with their family, are making a significant impact through their work with Beyond Ourselves in Zambia. As leaders of this education development ministry, they are dedicated to enhancing the quality of education across the nation. Beyond Ourselves provides financial and professional support to community schools and collaborates with the Ministry for General Education to deliver both pre-service and in-service teacher training for government educators.
