About This Project

Empower. Educate. Equip. Three powerful words Our Village Uganda employs to describe their work in Iganga and Lamwo, Uganda. But they are more than simply words on a mission statement. Rooted in the love of Jesus, this ministry is reaching out to impoverished families in a spirit of partnership to work for and bring about change.

Empower: In the face of crushing poverty, it is hard to be brave alone. Our Village comes alongside men and women as they determine a path forward and lead change for themselves and their communities.

Educate: Our Village primary school offers orphans and vulnerable children an education that prepares them for high school. They also provide nutritious meals to ensure students are mentally and physically able to study and reach their full potential.

Equip: Women in the community who may have missed out on formal education can participate in tailoring or agricultural training, providing them with a source of income and opportunities to start their own small business.

There is no ‘us’ and ‘them’ when it comes to the work of Our Village Uganda. At its heart, the ministry is a community partnership of Ugandans, many of whom have experienced poverty themselves, working to find sustainable solutions for the people of Iganga and Lamwo together. Our Village Uganda empowers vulnerable communities in the Iganga and Lamwo districts through relationships rooted in the love of Jesus Christ. We believe education is key in bringing our communities out of poverty.

Why give to this project?

In Iganga, we currently have 520 children attending our primary school and 42 children attending secondary or trades school. We also facilitate ongoing agricultural training for over 150 women in Lamwo.

Moving forward, we believe that equipping these women and children with tools and infrastructure will move things to the next level, namely long-lasting, sustainable change. We currently employ 20 Ugandans and are working to build infrastructure through our farm and other income-generating practices to bring sustainability from within so that our communities see that they possess the resources and abilities needed to bring lasting change.
