Score Against poverty is a charitable organization whose goal is to alleviate poverty in all ways possible in the lives of the marginalized communities of Zambia. In this particular project, SCORE is aiming at providing food security to the farmers of Harmony settlements in Choma District of Southern Province of Zambia.
Due to climate change and other factors, drought hit the community of harmony settlement. Because of the rain pattern that has changed, SCORE, through this project, is trying to find a way the members of the said community will be able to sustain their families in terms of having enough food to eat. This project is ministering to the physical needs of the farmers and their families, in turn strengthening their mortal bodies which is housing their spirit man. The project also gives the members of harmony settlements an opportunity to be each other’s keeper by working together as a team ensuring that their crops are doing well.
Every organization is bound to have its own challenges. For SCORE being an organization in its infancy stage, it has had challenges in funding the many project proposals it has. SCORE has a big vision which has placed the marginalized communities at its centre. Because of the limitation in resources, SCORE is not able to meet the targeted numbers of the members of the community.
This far, with the available resources from individuals, SCORE is working with the sizable number of the farmers to teach them on the Conservation Agriculture practices that will help them have good grain held to sustain their families.
With your help, SCORE will be able to reach to masses of the less privileged communities in Zambia. Currently the members of Harmony settlements are not able to afford 3 main meals in a day because most of them have run out of grain. By means of the current rain pattern Zambia is experiencing, if the farmers continue with the traditional way of farming, chances are very high that the situation will be worse this year and years to come. By way of the introduction to conservation Agriculture of inter cropping of cereal and indigenous legumes, it is hoped that there will be an improvement to their annual food basket till the next season. As Score we implore you, our donors, to hold hands with us in order for us to realize our dream of conquering the fight against poverty in the lives of the farmers of Harmony settlement in Choma district of Southern Province in Zambia. As we are encouraged in the Bible in the book of Matthew 7:12 paraphrased – Whatever you do to the least of my brothers, that you do unto me. Your donation, and SCORE being the vehicle to convey the gifts to the people through the Conservation Agriculture, resonates so well with what we are encouraged to do by our Lord Jesus Christ.
