The Ayta MAGBUKON has occupied the Bataan Peninsula since the beginning. In fact, the name itself originates from a term meaning "to separate" from the other Ayta language groups. They live in the mountainous region of Mariveles in the Philippines. They have a population of just over 200 people, with an average lifespan of less than 23 years. Although they have heard of Jesus, no one has been willing to come among them to share the truth of the Gospel and show them the path of hope.
We run a weekly feeding program every Saturday afternoon, which includes vitamin distribution, both organized and carried out by members of the tribe.
As the program grew, it inspired us to start a Sunday School and a women's Bible study group, which now take place before the food distribution activities.
Since its inception, the feeding program has expanded from an initial 40 participants to over 90 today. Alongside vitamin C distribution, we have also introduced an emergency medical support program to address immediate health needs.
The Mariveles region in the Philippines experiences a rainy season lasting 4 to 6 months each year. Because the Magbukon tribe's homes are located on steep slopes, heavy rain and mud frequently cover their homes and roads. This constant exposure to muddy water leads to prolonged wet conditions, resulting in common fungal infections among the community members.
To address these challenges, we plan to raise funds to build a community food center. This center will not only serve as a venue for future feeding programs, Sunday School, medical missions, and educational activities but will also help address critical needs during the rainy season. It will provide a dry, level space and improve access to a reliable water supply, enhancing the overall well-being and resilience of the community.
