As with other caring professions, the COVID-19 pandemic presented a particularly gruelling challenge to pastors. With one-to-many activities restricted, the work of ministry was multiplied overnight. There was no playbook.
Even under normal conditions, pastors face high levels of stress and burnout due to the demands of the job. They carry the emotional burdens of a congregation and commonly deal with multiple challenges simultaneously, leaving limited opportunities for personal development and renewal. Many pastors leave their posts prematurely, debilitated by overwhelming experiences they are unable to endure. As high as 42 percent of pastors have contemplated leaving full-time ministry, risking a loss that the church simply cannot afford.
The Shepherd’s Refuge provides much-needed opportunities for pastors to decompress, recharge, and seek support. By offering care, coaching, and connection, TSR will help reduce ministry attrition rates and fortify pastors to continue their vital activities.
You can contribute to this work. Struggling pastors require more than good advice from books and videos – they require personal connection with someone who has been in the trenches of pastoral ministry. The Shepherd’s Refuge provides these connections.
Please donate to the work of this vital ministry.
