About This Project
We’re transforming the lives of Guatemala’s most vulnerable children. Grounded in the Christian faith, Transforming Futures has several programs that teach job skills to abused teenage orphans, serve daily meals to poor children, and share God’s love with young people who need a helping hand.
Orphan Transition Program. When a Guatemalan child loses their parents, is abused at home, or has an otherwise unlivable situation, they are placed in an orphanage. After they turn 18 years old, they’re forced to leave. Our three-year program focuses on preparing teens for life outside the orphanage. We’re teaching job skills, providing mentorship opportunities, and offering counseling services, with the goal of putting the teens on a path to have independent and prosperous lives. Around 40 teens are currently enrolled in our program, and we aim to continue expanding so that we can assist more teens.
Community Meals Program. Guatemala has the fourth-highest rate of chronic malnutrition in the world. We’re tackling this challenge by serving daily meals to more than 400 children who live in extreme poverty in the Guatemala City Garbage Dump. We work in close partnership with Casa del Pan, a local Christian organization.
